Chapter 1 “SNIPPET” (CHANGE IS ON THE HORIZON)

It was one of those days?  All I wanted to do was lie on the chaise lounge and feel the heat from the summer sun soak the warmth into my creaky bones.  Gabriella, my lifetime companion, gardened next to me without a care in the world.

Then it happened.  Driving towards the cottage, a black Limousine flew like a bat out of hell.  It twisted around a bend and through the covered bridge at top speed.  As the limousine slammed on its brakes, dust flew into the air, before it screeched to a halt in front of our picket fence.

Gabriella jumps to her feet, and like a karate master, pulls my limp body from the ground into a wheelchair. Her fingernails cut into the thin skin on my forearms. The look on her face, eerie, when at first sight of the black limousine coming towards us, her lips curled up like a dog ready to attack.  It was as if the devil himself was on the way. To make matters worse the sky turn’s jet black, and the sound of the insects chirping in the marshlands behind the cottage stops.  Silence entombs us.
